Home Economies professionals hold memorial service for departed members

Accra, Oct. 7, GNA - The Ghana Home Economics Association (GHEA) comprising professionals in home economics and related sciences, has organised a memorial service for its departed members at the Ridge Church in Accra.

The well-attended ceremony saw Association members, expressing words of appreciations to the departed members and thanksgiving to the God for their souls and what they came to on this earth.

The GHEA aims to promote the status of Home Economics Education in Ghana by seeking to maintain high professional standards in human development, financial and resource management, textiles and clothing, housing environment, food and nutrition.

It also provides an opportunity to discuss developments in home economics and its related fields through conferences, symposia, seminars and workshops.

Mrs Veronica Jackson, National President of GHEA, told the media at the memorial service held recently that the Association had more than 500 members nationwide, 10 Regional branches and affiliated to International Federation for Home Economics based in Germany.

She said the Association had embarked on projects to help improve the living standard of members and keep abreast with modern trends of using technology for teaching.

Mrs Jackson said the sustainability of any group depended to a large extent on a shared vision as well as a commitment of its members towards the growth of the group.

She appealed philanthropists to assist the group to achieve its dream to enable them to contribute their quota to the development of the country.

Mrs Alberta Ollenu, former President, GHEA urged members to be creative with the God-given talent and not rely on government to provide them with job.

She advised them to set good value system with a good sense of prioritty in management of all situations, adding that with determination backed with hard word, tenacity of purpose and humility they could transform any situation or challenge.

Mrs Florence Bonni, a member, said the role of the Home Economics in human resources development through education, promotion of good nutrition and health, including HIV/AIDS prevention, was crucial for national development.

She expressed her gratitude to the founding mothers for their efforts to establish the Association to help curb poverty in the society.

GHEA helps members in providing excellence in home economics for the improved quality of life of individuals, family and communities in Ghana.
