Hohoe North dispute settlement will ensure peaceful elections - Togbega

Hohoe, Oct. 21, GNA - The Hohoe North Constituency Inter-Party Dispute Settlement Committee says it would do everything in its power to ensure absolute peace in the area before, during and after Election 2004.

In order to achieve its goal, the committee said it had the mandate to sanction any party or individual that would disrupt the peace during the period.

The Committee, which is under the chairmanship of Togbega Gabusu VI, Paramount Chief of the Gbi Traditional Area and the President of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs, is made up of the Police, representatives of political parties in the constituency, the media, security agencies and assembly members.

Speaking at the end of the Committee's second meeting at Hohoe, Togbega Gabusu said the Committee was formed to ensure that political issues in the Constituency were amicably settled instead of parties resorting to the courts.

He warned that, even though, the Committee's aim was to ensure peaceful settlement of issues, "we would not allow the name of Gbi, which is one of the most peaceful areas in the Region, to be soiled". Togbega Gabusu, therefore, urged any party, which felt provoked by another party to report to the Committee for immediate redress. 21 Oct. 04
