Ho drivers raise fares slightly

Ho, Oct 04, GNA - Transport fares in Ho have gone up slightly following the latest upward review of petroleum prices by the National Petroleum Authority.

When the GNA visited the main lorry park at the Ho Central Market, it found that some taxi drivers are charging between 1,700 and 2,000 cedis for a service instead of 1,500 cedis.

However, long distance drivers of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) have maintained the old fares.

Some drivers operating under the GPRTU and plying the Ho-Accra route have resorted to misinforming passengers that their competitors had raised their fares from 25,000 cedis to 27,000 cedis. Mr Alfred Awiaga, the GPRTU Union Guard Commander, said until the regional chairman was back from a meeting in Accra, the old fares would be maintained.
