Ho Tennis Club embarks on tree planting exercise on Eid al-Fitr Day

As part of its core values to conserve the environment, the Ho Tennis Club (HTC), embarked on a massive tree planting exercise on the premises surrounding the tennis court as part of activities marking the celebration of this year’s Eid al-Fitr.

The main objective of the exercise was to contribute to the sustainability of the environment and beautify the environment. Most of the members of the Club joined the in the tree planting exercise on Monday, 26th June 2017.

The Chairman of Club, Lt. Col. Selom Amengor, indicated that this initiative is to plant one tree by each member, and the aim is to hold it for several years to come.

The Chairman also noted that, at HTC, we believe in the sustainability of life. This is the best way to sustain life for the generations to come. Apart from sustaining life, we are looking at the beautification of the area to boost our recreational efforts.



What is Eid al-Fitr?

Eid or Eid al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, which is a month of fasting that started on May 27 and finished on Sunday June 25.

Eid kickstarts the month of Shawwal, which begins with a feast to end the period of fasting.

The celebration is a public holiday in many Muslim countries including Ghana. During Eid, Muslims will often purchase new clothes for the occasion, and take part in festivals and celebrations. Many will wake up early to pray at a mosque or outdoor prayer venue.

Gifts and cards are often exchanged among friends and family. Eid means “celebration” and Mubarak means “blessed”, often Eid Mubarak is used as a greeting over this period.



Local Competition

After the tree planting exercise, members also participated in a local doubles tournament to commemorate the holiday. The tree planting exercise for the day ended with a pork show and lunch at the Ho Tennis Court Club House (The TopSpin Bar).
