‘High voltage causes fire’

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of GTM Technologies in Kumasi, Francis Wereko, a renowned technician, has described high voltage as one of the key causes of fire in the country lately.

He consequently warned the public to carefully switch off their home appliances after power outage.

According to him, the voltage increases when power supply is restored.

The high voltage, he said, has the potential to cause fire.

Mr. Wereko disclosed this while addressing a section of the media in Kumasi during the launch of gadgets which curtail fire outbreaks in homes and workplaces.

The two gadgets- Power Reset and Power Preset Gadget- were manufactured by GTM Technologies based in Ghana.

Mr. Wereko, a graduate of Kumasi Technical Institute (KTI), is the brain behind the manufacture of the two gadgets.

Throwing more light on the invention, he said, the Preset Gadget, which is small, has the potential to hold power for about five minutes when power supply is restored before it automatically releases it to the home appliances.

The Reset Gadget also holds power when it is restored but with this one the home appliances would begin to function only when the person has switched on the gadget, he said.

Mr. Wereko said the two small gadgets, when installed in homes, prevent fire outbreaks which destroy property and claim human lives.

The gadgets also prevent the destruction of machines.

Mr. Wereko said he had developed another gadget which could automatically switch off street lights during the day to save power for the country.

He appealed to government to support local inventions, stressing that Ghana boasts of brilliant technicians who could manufacture important devices if given the needed support.
