Help us collect our money-- Nana-Dumasi

Dumasi (W/R), May 20,- GNA- The people of Dumasi near Bogoso in the Western Region have appealed to Osagyefo Kwamina Enimil VI, Paramount chief of Wassa Fiase Traditional Area to impress upon Bogoso Goldfields Limited (BGL) to pay their land compensation otherwise they would go back to take their farmlands.

They said it was not fair for some farmers to be paid while others have been left out.

They said if nothing was heard about the payment by Monday, May 22, 2006 they would go back to work on their lands thereby preventing BGL from working on the land.

Briefing the press on behalf of the community here on Friday, Mr Justice Oppong, chief farmer, Dumasi said a Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) was signed between the Farmers and the KooKooase Chief, who is supposed to be the representative of the Wassa Fiase Paramountcy on March 21 2006.

He said following the MOU, 23 out of 77 farmers had their compensation paid but the payment of the rest was withheld upon the instruction of the Wassa Fiase paramountcy. Mr Oppong said BGL acquired a piece of land for the construction of tailings storage facility and agreement was reached with the farmers as to how much compensation was to be paid to the landowners. He said failure in the payment of the compensation has created tension in the community.
