Help trace relatives of lunatic nursing mother- Hospital Authorities

Suhum (E/R), Oct. 14, GNA- The Suhum Kraboa Coaltar District Assembly and the Suhum Government Hospital, have appealed to the public to help trace the relatives of a lunatic pregnant woman who was rushed to the hospital on September nine and delivered a baby girl the following day.

The lunatic, aged about 22, is believed to have come from one of the villages in the Ga District.

According to the Hospital authorities she initially mentioned her name as Comfort Ashong, but she constantly kept on giving different names to herself.

The woman appeared neat in new clothes and comported herself well by asking the nurses to provide her with fufu and light soup as her staple food and pure water in sachet.

Madam Gladys Ansah Kumi, Assembly Member for Suhum New town told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Suhum that on September nine, this year, members of the Unit Committee came to inform her about a pregnant lunatic woman in labour.

She said she conveyed her to the Suhum Government Hospital where she delivered.

The Assembly member said the matter was reported to the District Social Welfare Office and the Hospital authorities who advised that the mother should be sent to the Psychiatric Hospital in Accra. Meanwhile, the baby is under the care of Madam Kumi while the mother is at the hospital.
