Residents of Sokoban Ampabame in the Atwima Kwanwoma District of the Ashanti region are sitting on a time bomb as a bridge linking the town to other communities has turned a death trap.

Recent torrential rains collapsed a section of the bridge constructed on the Ampabame stream creating a gully on the side of the bridge and residents fear the situation could worsen as the rainy season approaches.

This has forced motorists to use the narrow strip on one side of the bridge.

Inspecting the bridge in the morning of Monday, May 14, 2018, Nana Okyere Tawia Antwi, the Chief Executive Officer of Atwima Kwanwoma said the road including the bridge had been awarded on contract.

He told Adehye FM's Elisha Adarkwah that the damage caused has been assessed by the technical people who accompanied him to the site.

Nana Okyere Tawia, said pressure will be put on the contractor to give the bridges a priority to prevent any disaster.

He was accompanied to the site by the Ashanti regional feeder roads director, Mr Kofi Arhin.
