Health personnel urged to accept rural postings

Asankrangwa (W/R) Feb. 5, GNA- Mr. Samuel Alberto Takyi, District Chief Executive for Wassa Amenfi has appealed to nurses and paramedics to accept postings to any part of the country where their services would be needed most.

He said the district assembly, is currently working out incentive packages for health personnel who accept postings to the district. Mr. Takyi made the appeal at an end-of-year get-together and awards night for workers of the Ministry of Health at Asankrangwa over the weekend.

He said the assembly would begin a housing project for health personnel this year to solve the acute accommodation problems they face.

Mr. Takyi said three clinics would be build at Asankrang-Moseaso, Bonsie and Nananko under the social investment fund (SIF) to complement the existing health facilities in the district.

The DCE commended Dr Francis Osei Kofi, a medical officer in-charge of the Catholic Hospital in the town for his dedicated service to the people.

Mr. Takyi said even though Dr. Osei-Kofi is on study leave, he visits the hospital on weekends and public holidays to provide medical services to the patients.

Mr. Emmanuel K. Tamakloe, District Director of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) said the service, would continue to provide quality medical care in spite of constraints.

He said the service would also take health care delivery to the doorsteps of communities where accessibility was difficult. Mr. Tamakloe urged Ghanaians to accept and contribute towards the success of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and the Community Based health Planning Services (CHIPS).

A 21-inch colour television and Digital Video Device (DVD) was presented to Dr. Kofi for his services to the community. Mr. Matthew Mensah received the best district health worker award while Miss Stella Twum, took home the longest serving community health nurse awards.

Other award winners were Miss Esther Acheampong, best CHIPS zone worker, Mr. John Cobbinah the longest serving worker, Mrs Phyllis Coffie best medical assistant and Miss Mary Arthur best midwife.

The Manso-Amenfi district health centre emerged the best-managed centre.
