A floating headless body, suspected to be that of a man, has been retrieved from the Kwamaa River at Asankragua in the Wassa Amenfi West District of the Western Region.

The decomposed body was discovered by some young women floating in the river on Sunday at a point near a refuse dump.

A local reporter at Asankragua, Micheal Assan told Takoradi-based Connect FM that the body has decomposed beyond recognition.

Medical personnel from the Asankragua Catholic Hospital after assessing the body advised the Asankragua Divisional Police Command and the Ghana Fire Service to bury it considering the level of decomposition.

The river in which the body was found serves as a source of water for some communities around Asankragua.

It is unclear whether the water from the river is still wholesome for consumption as the District Environmental Health Directorate is yet to conduct an assessment of the water quality.
