Head porters given educational materials

Techiman (B/A), May 15, GNA - The Bureau of Rural and Urban Mobilization for Development, in conjunction with the International Labour Organization and International Programme on the Elimination of Child Labour, has presented educational items worth GHC30,000 to 150 children head porters in the Techiman Municipality. It was the second time that the three bodies had provided assistance in the form of school uniforms, books and footwear to such children in the municipality.

Mr. Davis Boama Asumadu, programme co-ordinator, said the support was aimed at helping to withdraw children from worst forms of child labour.

He said 43 out of 50 such children had been placed in vocational training in hairdressing, spraying, fitting, among others. Mr. Boama called on parents of the beneficiaries who had been provided with equipment for income generating activities to work hard enough to generate more income to support the training of their children.
