Head-on collision on Agona-Tano Dumase highway claims five lives

A tragic road accident on the Agona–Tano Dumase highway late Thursday night resulted in the deaths of five people and left several others injured. The collision occurred around 11:45 p.m. on October 9, 2025, near Kona in the Sekyere South District of the Ashanti Region, when a VIP Jeoun bus and a Toyota Yaris collided head-on.

According to eyewitness reports, the VIP bus, en route from Yeji to Kade, was attempting to overtake another vehicle at high speed when it crashed into the oncoming Toyota Yaris, which was travelling from Kona to Tano Dumase.

The impact of the crash was devastating. All five occupants of the Toyota Yaris were killed instantly. Sources at the scene indicate that the driver of the Toyota, believed to be a pastor, was returning home from an evening church service with members of his congregation when the tragedy occurred.

Images from the scene depict the severity of the accident, showing the red Toyota Yaris completely mangled with a crushed roof, shattered windows, and debris strewn across the highway. The VIP bus also sustained significant damage to its front and upper sections, resulting in injuries to several passengers.

Police arrived at the scene shortly after the accident and began rescue operations. Stranded passengers on the VIP bus were assisted while the injured were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The bodies of the deceased have since been taken to the morgue for preservation. Police have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision to determine the exact cause.
