Hawkers take over Mankessim streets

Municipal Chief Executive for Mankessim Municipal District Assembly in the Central Region, Henry Kweku Hayfron, is worried that hawkers have virtually taken over the pedestrian walkways and the shoulders of major streets in the Mankessim Traditional Area.

According to the worried MCE, the activities of the traders are making both human and vehicular movement difficult in the commercial hub of Mankessim Traditional Area, as people compete for the limited space.

Addressing a durbar of chiefs and people of Mankessim to climax the celebration of Borbor Mfantse Akwanbo festival at the weekend, Mr. Hayfron advised traders against doing business on the streets.

He said the assembly is constructing additional stalls and walkways to prevent the traders from using the streets.

The MCE therefore appealed to the traders to stop using the fountain being constructed at the roundabout as a place for displaying their wares.
