Haatso residents urged to form community development committee

Accra April 2, GNA - Professor Mike Oquaye, Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ga East constituency on Saturday urged residents of Haatso to form a community development committee to speed up development in the area.

He said the committee would have, among its responsibilities, ensure that light, water, electricity and other utilities do not lack in the area.

Speaking at a day's forum organized by the South East Haatso Residents Association (SEHRA) to enable residents to meet their MP and discuss issues of concern in the area, Professor Oquaye called on the residents to show concern about wrong things being perpetrated in the area.

The forum discussed mainly the National Health Insurance Scheme, Road Works and the security situation in the area.

He said the committee, when formed would also help educate residents on security matters as well as other national issues Professor Oquaye, who is also the Minister of Energy, called on the people to cooperate with the Assembly unit to ensure rapid development. He called for proposals and suggestions from the citizenry that would help in the development of the area to a required standard. DSP Antwi Boasiako, Police Commander at Madina, speaking on the security situation in the area advised residents to help make the place safe by clearing the bushy places.

He said the police administration was in the process of opening a police station in the area to help reduce crime. DSP Antwi Boasiako called on the government to provide streetlights in the area.

Mr Ernest Antonio, a representative from NHIS explained that the registering of residents for the NHIS programme had delayed but assured them that everything was now set for the registration exercise in the area.
