Gushegu NADMO distributes relief items

The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) in the Gushegu District has begun distributing relief items to victims of last Tuesday’s rainstorm.

Available statistics indicate that over one thousand people have been rendered homeless.

The Gushegu NADMO Coordinator, Mahama Ibrahim Jamoni in an interview stated, “Actually we have a consignment from NADMO headquarters in Accra which is in our hands now, we are in a committee meeting to consider how to distribute the items.”

He said much attention was going to be given to schools and government structures that were affected.

Mr. Jamoni however bemoaned the quantity saying, “The consignment is not enough because we had only 30 pockets of roofing sheets and four schools were badly affected so we want to see how best we can use that one to support the institutions.”

In a related development, the MP for the Yendi constituency Alhaji Mohammed Habib Tijani has appealed for a similar response from NADMO for his constituents who suffered the same fate last week.

“I am in touch with the people on the ground and I want to appeal to NADMO and other philanthropic organizations to come to the aid of the Yendi victims.”

Meanwhile, the Northern Regional NADMO Boss, Alhaji Abdulai Silimboma said he was still assessing the damage caused by the rainstorm which hit the Tamale Township and Yendi Municipality last Thursday.
