Greater Accra GJA votes on March 31

Accra March 3, GNA- The Greater Accra Regional branch of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) elections, which could not be held with other regional branches last year, would now come off on Wednesday March 31.

Positions to be contested are Chairman, Vice Chairman, Treasurer and two executive members.

A statement signed by Mr Bright Kwame Blewu, General Secretary of the GJA on Wednesday said filing of nomination would be on Thursday March 5, at the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at 0900 hours and close on Friday March 12, at 1700 hours.

The statement said, "in line with the GJA's Constitution, only fully paid-up members qualify to contest and to vote." It said all candidates would be required to pay a non-refundable deposit at the filing of their nominations with Mr Mawusi Afele, the Election Officer at GNA.

"That for Chairman shall be 100,000 cedis, Vice Chairman, 80,000 cedis and other positions, 40,000 cedis," the statement said. The GJA Election Officer, Mr Afele and Miss Adwoa Asiedu of "Ghanaian Times" will conduct the polls with the assistance of the Electoral Commission.

It said polling stations will be at the Head office of the GNA, New Times Corporation, Graphic Communications Group Limited, Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, the Tema district office of the GNA for all members in Tema and at the Ghana International Press Centre for members of the private press in Accra.

Polling will begin at 1000 and end at 1700 hours," the statement said.
