Graduates urged to develop entreprenurial skills

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of DKM Diamond Microfinance, Mr. Delle K. Martin has charged graduates on the need to develop entrepreneurial skills.
According to him, self-employment should be seen as one of the reliable ways of ensuring sustainable development as a country.
In other for such goal to be achieved, graduates should discard the notion that it is the utmost responsibility of the central government to create jobs.
The CEO, who was speaking at a Lecture Series organised by the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration (EBA) of the Catholic University College of Ghana (CUCG), Fiapre on the theme; “ A Night With The Managers” stated categorically that the youth are the future leaders, hence the need for innovative ideas.
The CEO lamented on the lackadaisical attitude of most graduates to nurture their innovative ideas. This he said has contributed immensely towards mass unemployment in the country.
Amidst standing ovation from the students, Mr. Delle, an Alumnus of CUCG pointed out that “our years in school, encounter with lecturers, motivational speakers, social psychologists, renowned business men and other social strategists are to be seen as a precipitating stage for our career development”.
“Our leaders, most especially the educationists have much to share with us, hence the need for students in school and graduates to consider discussing with them, ways of nurturing or developing their proposed ideas, he explained.
Mr. Delle further opined: “circulating ideas that universities in Ghana only concentrate on theoretical based knowledge has no concrete substance in that most lecturers have adopted several ways of presenting practical related examples to students.
Until students develop intuitive concepts of separating practical based knowledge and that of theoretical ones, they will find it difficult to understand the concepts of employment and creativity”.
The Mr. Delle who completed university in 2012, asserted that graduates can easily make it if they consider confidentiality, trustworthiness, self-belief and effective time management (five seconds of picking phone calls) as needful tools in development of the world.
In an open forum, the students asked the CEO series of questions ranging from his personal lifestyle, commencement of DKM and major challenges.
In response, Mr. Delle explained that, the concept of DKM started after an unfortunate encounter with a Rural Bank.
He enumerated: “having such a vision, I worked tirelessly by living formative life. Quite apart from that, knowing the complex nature of the vision, I took time to read about renowned bankers and other financial experts”
Accordingly, the CEO further told the gathering that his banking concept paved the way to delve much into the world of business. And it is therefore not surprising that on 26th April 2013, the long awaited dream was practically conceived in the heart of Sunyani, Brong Ahafo Regional Capital with the name DKM Diamond Microfinance Limited.
“As present and future entrepreneurs, it is obvious that you will face a lot of challenges from senior men, friends, loved ones and even family members but do not let that kill your spirit of determination, instead keep on thinking of positive things”, he advised.
