Govt provides 185 projects in Jaman District

Drobo (B/A) Sept. 7 GNA - The Government has completed 185 development projects in Jaman District in Brong Ahafo since 2001, Mr Apraku Tanor, District Chief Executive for Jaman South, told a press conference at Drobo on Thursday.

He said since assumption of office, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Government had delivered on its promise to improve education infrastructure, agriculture, environment, water and sanitation, among other things.

The press conference was to brief the people on the state of the District since 2001. He noted the number of measures and programmes that the Government had put in place to help to improve the lives of the people.

With him was Ms Anna Nyamekye, MP for the area and Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture and present were NPP District Executives, Assembly Members, Constituency Elders and Heads of Decentralised Government Departments.

Mr Tanoh said in education, Drobo Secondary School had been upgraded as a model school while more than 70 educational infrastructure including classrooms with toilets, offices and stores, as well as teachers' quarters had been provided. He said three schools at Kofiko, Baano and Kwameseikrom, all in the District, were enjoying the school feeding programme while a health insurance block and nurses' quarters, among other things had been provided at Adiokor and Bodaa.

Drobo, Adamsu Dwenem and Japekrom are all enjoying potable water under the small town water systems, while all documents have been signed for the commencement of the water project at Gonasua and Katakyiekrom. Mr Tanoh said more than 100 boreholes had been provided throughout the District.

The major Drobo-Sampa road is now under construction, he said, adding all feeder roads in the Districts were being reshaped while new ones from Katakyiekrom to Konsia; Ampenkro to Yaw Twenekrom to link to Jaman North were being constructed.

The DCE said the Japekrom-Kwamesikrom feeder road was being tarred and the Drobo-Miremano road would receive a similar treatment. On electrification, Mr Tanoh said about 16 communities were being connected to the National Electricity Grid and plans were far advanced to connect Komfourkrom to Atuna and Batea, saying Biama and new settlements and other big towns would not be left out. Of the 807 youth offered employment under the National Youth Employment Programme, the DCE said 350 were engaged in agribusiness; 200 as community education teaching assistants; 70 as health extension workers and 36 of them in waste and sanitation (Zoomlion). He said 131 of the youth were undergoing training at the Police Training Depot in Kumasi while 20 of them were on internship. Ms Nyamekye explained that the Member of Parliament's share of the District Assemblies' Common Fund of five per cent was only to supplement the Assembly's efforts in the provision of development projects.

She said the Fund was used to help to provide furniture for basic schools in the District; 200 concrete electricity poles to more than 15 communities undertaking electrification projects. Classroom blocks have been provided at Krakom and Boadwo, as well as the renovation of a block of three classrooms, an office and store at Dodosuo and supported the construction of a canteen for Kofiko and Kwaeseikrom under the school feeding programme. Ms Nyamekye said she had also instituted a programme to offer bursaries and scholarships to brilliant but needy girls in second cycle schools as well as girls from the District, who would gain admission into a university.
