Govt commended for proposal to sell low-cost houses to tenants

Koforidua, May 9, GNA - The residents of Adweso Low Cost Houses near Koforidua have commended the government for its proposal to sell the low-cost houses in Ghana to sitting tenants. This was contained in an address by the Chairman of the Adweso Low Cost Houses Association, Mr J. K. Nketia to the residents after a two-hour clean up exercise at the low-cost housing estate at Koforidua, on Saturday.
He said the previous government recommended the sale of the houses in February 1993, but the process was not completed until the assumption of office of the government of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and described the decision to sell the houses to the occupants as a step in the right direction.
Mr Nketia on behalf of the members of the association assured the government of their readiness to co-operate with the valuation officer who had been commissioned by the Ministry of Works and Housing to value the houses.
He said the sitting tenants had being paying for the cost of maintenance of the 92 low cost houses they occupied.
