Government to continue providing infrastructure for development

Kpando, March 3, GNA - Mr Pious Adanuti, Kpando District Chief Executive (DCE), on Monday said the government would continue to keep faith with the people by providing the appropriate infrastructure to accelerate development.

The DCE, who said this when he opened a branch of the Asubonten Rural bank at Kpando, announced that a number of feeder roads were being rehabilitated in the district to facilitate economic activities. Mr Adanuti expressed the hope that people in the Kpando area would benefit from the bank's credit facilities to enhance their economic activities.

He said: "Civil servants who travel outside Kpando every month to collect their salaries due to the long queues at the only commercial bank in town will also do business with the bank".

Mr Adanuti asked the bank to motivate the civil servants to open and operate accounts with the financial institution.

He urged the bank to invest in its areas of operation adding, "You can go into food processing, eco-tourism, lake transport, irrigation and farming".

Nana Yaa Pokua, Oyokohemaa of Worawora and Chairperson of the bank, in a speech read for her said the bank with financial support from the Association of Rural Banks (ARB) and DANIDA was providing credit facilities to women's groups to improve their businesses.

She said the financial institution has since its establishment, five years ago, been able to raise 1.2 billion cedis as its deposit and urged the people to do business with it to enable them improve their living standards.

Togbe Komlateng V, Chief of Aloyi, said the branch was opened at the right time to serve the people in the district, who were predominantly farmers.

He requested the bank to ensure low interest on credit facilities that would not require collaterals.

Mr Joshua Odoom, Manager of the bank, said 20 women's groups have benefited from a total loan of 100 million cedis to improve their businesses under the banks micro-finance activities.

The Bank has its headquarters at Worawora in the Jasikan District of the Volta Region and has another branch at Hohoe and a mobilisation centre at Katanga in Kete-Krachi District all in the region.
