Government studying report of review of education system

Akim Swedru (E/R), Aug 21, GNA- The Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Mr Yaw Osafo Marfo, said on Thursday that the report on the comprehensive review of the entire education system is before the government for study.

He said the review will ensure a rapid transformation of the society and make the dream of achieving higher economic growth rate and improve the standard of living by the year 2010 a reality.

Mr Osafo Marfo said this in a speech read for him at the Akim Swedru St Agatha Catholic Girls Boarding School Open Day celebration on Thursday.

He commended the Catholic Church in particular and a few other churches for supporting education even to the tertiary level. The Eastern Regional Director of Education, Mrs Ewura-Abena Ahwoi, stressed the importance of sending the girl child to school.

She said educated girls are more likely to be able to understand important health messages adding that children of educated mothers are better nourished and suffer less in sickness.

Mrs Ahwoi reminded the students of the HIV/AIDS and advised them to guard against pre-marital sex to avoid the disease.

Headmistress of the School, Mrs Constance Winnifred Asare, said the school remains one of the best in the Birim South District.
