Government releases funds NHIS - DCE

Ajumako (C/R), Jan 5, GNA - The Government has released 100 million cedis from the HIPIC Fund to the Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam District Assembly to facilitate the operation of the District Mutual Health Organisation. Mr Kenneth Obenpong, District Chief Executive, who was speaking on Friday, said the amount would be used to promote the institutional framework and structures for the health insurance scheme.

He said preparation towards the implementation of the mutual health insurance scheme in the District including the establishment of a secretariat had reached an advanced stage while a training workshop for community managers and district implementation committee members had been conducted.

The DCE said a constitution was being drafted for the scheme, adding that, the Assembly would hold a stakeholders meeting for approval to start registration, coding and payment of the approved premium. He stressed the government's determination to replace the cash and carry system with the scheme to make health delivery accessible, saying, "to enable the organisation properly take-off and sustain itself for future generations we need to register as members". The DCE said the Assembly would provide office accommodation and was looking for donor logistics support for the start of the scheme.
