Gomoa citizens urged to take advantage of MCC

Apam, Sept. 8, GNA -- Madam Joyce Mildred Aidoo, Gomoa District Chief Executive, has urged her compatriots to take full advantage of the millennium challenge compact to come out of poverty.

She noted that if they did not show commitment to the project they would continue to remain in poverty.

Madam Aidoo expressed gratitude to the government for making Gomoa one of the beneficiary districts of the Compact.

'We should not let this golden opportunity to ship by as we have done to other interventions', the DCE pleaded in an address to dissolve the Assembly at Apam on Wednesday.

The 81-member Assembly was dissolved to signify the end of its four-year term and to pave the way for the September 26 district level elections.

She commended members for their cooperation and support, which had enabled the Assembly to provide a number of amenities for the people. Madam Aidoo urged them to continue the fight to get the District split into two, to enhance rapid development.

Mr Joe Hackman, MP (NPP) for Gomoa West, called for cooperation between MPs and assembly members so that together they could plan for development of their areas.

The MP commended Madam Aidoo for working behind the scenes to improve the living conditions of the people.

=93Some people do not want to accept that when women are put in leadership positions they can achieve good results, but here is a woman DCE, who has made it,=94 the MP stated.

Obrifo Ahunako Ahor Anbkobea II, Omanhene of Gomoa Akyempim traditional area called on members who might lose their re-election bids to find ways of putting their experiences at the disposal of the new members so that together they could work to improve living conditions of their people.

Mr Fred Oscar Abban, Presiding Member, suggested to those who would be re-elected to institute awards for hard working workers to motivate them to give-of their best.

The Presiding member, who has been returned unopposed in his electoral area, thanked the members for their support. Each member was paid two million cedis as ex-gratia award.
