Gomoa Fetteh launches programme to raise funds

Gomoa Fetteh (C/R), Aug 20, GNA - Nana Abor Yamoah II, Chief of Gomoa Fetteh in the Central Region has launched a programme to raise funds for the development of the town.

Speaking to newsmen at Gomoa Fetteh on Monday, he said the construction of a drainage system to help check erosion was a priority of the people.

He announced that a durbar would be held on the 6th of September to climax activities to mark this year's Akwambo Festival of the Chiefs and people of the area, which would begin on 28 August, to raise funds for projects.

Nana Yamoah appealed to citizens of the town especially those resident outside to help make the ceremony a success, adding that, " we have to help ourselves since the days people looked on government for the provision of their needs are over"

He commended the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Gomoa District Assembly for their contribution towards the provision of a school block for the town.

The Chief also praised the communal spirit of citizens resident at home and urged them to continue to attract assistance from the government and other organisations.

Some of the activities planned for the festival include clean up campaign, clearing of paths, the carrying of the ancestral stool, a boat regatta, football match and a dance.
