Gomoa District mark sanitation week at Apam, Buduburam

Apam (C/R), Oct. 7, GNA - The Gomoa District Chief Executive (DCE), Miss Joyce Mildred Aidoo, said on Tuesday that without good sanitation, various interventions to improve the health of the people would not achieve the desired result.
She noted that many diseases in Ghana could be prevented if the people observe good environmental and personal hygiene.
"Health is wealth and no effort should be spared in protecting the environment from undesirable elements, which can affect our health," she said.
The DCE was addressing volunteers after separate clean-up exercises at Gomoa Buduburam and Apam as part of activities marking Sanitation Week in the district.
She expressed concern about poor sanitation in the communities and said a 25 million-cedi incinerator has been built at Apam while three garbage containers worth 33 million cedis had been procured for Buduburam both from the district's share of the HIPC Fund. Orders have been placed for additional refuse containers for distribution.
Miss Aidoo said clean-up exercises would be undertaken every two weeks until the surroundings were rid of filth and expressed disappointment at the low turn-up at Apam. She appealed to the Chiefs, members of the Town Council and the people to live up to their responsibilities.
