Gomoa District GNAT elects officers

Apam (CR), Aug 10, GNA - The Gomoa District branch of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), has elected Mr Archibold Kobena Fuah, Headmaster of the Apam Secondary School as its Chairman for the next four years.

At its delegate's conference at Apam, the Association also elected Mrs Mavis Anyanful, Headmistress of the Apam Salvation Army JSS as Vice Chairman.

Other officers elected were Miss Charlotte Hini, Treasurer, Miss Mavis Otoo, GNAT Ladies Co-ordinator and Mr Ebenezer Brew, Trustee. In an acceptance speech, Mr Fuah urged teachers to invest part of their salaries in improving their academic qualifications. He advised them not to wait for promotions but to improve their qualifications.

The new Chairman expressed concern about the unimpressive academic performance of schools in the District and appealed to teachers to buck-up.

Mr Thomas Baafi, Central Regional GNAT Secretary, said the Association was concerned with the improvement of the professional competence of teachers and urged them to take advantage of its programmes to better their lot. Mrs Rose Newman, a retired Educationist, advised teachers to lead exemplary lives for their students to emulate. Mr Thomas Birch Arthur, District GNAT Secretary, appealed to the government to review the quota system of granting study leave to encourage more teachers to further their education.
