A Popular Akyem Oda-based gold dealer died instantly while two other men sustained serious injuries when two vehicles from opposite directions collided head-on near Aprokumase on the Oda-Agona Swedru highway at dawn last Sunday.

The body of the deceased, Iddi Abu, aged 39, has been deposited at the morgue of the Oda Government Hospital awaiting autopsy while the injured persons, Kwasi Mensah, a 34-year-old driver, and his mate, Emmanuel Darko, have been admitted to the same medical facility for treatment.

Briefing the Daily Graphic at Oda on Sunday, the Oda Divisional Commander of the Police Motor Traffic and Transport Division (MTTD), DSP Mr Twum Barima, said the late Iddi was returning to Oda from Accra with his Toyota Corolla private car with registration number GW2331-16.

He said on reaching a spot near Aprokumase around 2:30 a.m, Iddi dodged a deep pothole in the middle of the road and collided head-on with a Hyundai passenger bus with registration number GW7464-13 driven by Mensah, which was from Oda to Agona Swedru.

Mr Barima said the impact of the collision was so great that Iddi died instantly and it took firemen from Oda a hectic time to remove his body from his mangled car.

He said some good Samaritans also rushed Mensah and Darko to the Oda Government Hospital where they were admitted for treatment.

The Divisional MTTU Commander expressed grave concern over the rampant motor accidents on the Oda-Agona Swedru road due to the numerous potholes on the road.
