Give us MCE who hails from our district - Nkoranza, Mo ask Prez

Nkoranza (B/A) April 23, GNA - The Chiefs and people of Nkoranza and Mo Traditional Areas in Brong Ahafo have kicked against the nomination of Mr. Al-Alhassan Seidu Harrison as the Municipal Chief Executive for Kintampo North.

The two sides, led by Okatakyie Agyeman Kudom 1V, Omanhene of Nkoranza Traditional Area and Nana Tibalakala 11, acting President of Mo Traditional Area, resolved to send a petition on the matter to President John Evans Atta Mills.

This was at the first general meeting of the Nkoranza Traditional Council held at the palace in Nkoranza and attended by the Mo delegation.

The two sides explained that the district assembly concept under the 1992 national constitution demanded that a chief executive should be a qualified indigene of an area in order to encourage especially the youth to aspire to achieve academic laurels to occupy responsible positions.

"We are not playing the tribal card. We only want the provisions of the constitutions to be strictly adhered to for the promotion of peace and development in our areas.

"Nowhere in the country has a DCE been appointed from one district to another. The nominee for Nkoranza North hails from Damango, how can he be imposed on Nkoranza and Mo," Okatakyie Kudom stated. The Omanhene noted that there had been a long standing cordial relationship between the people of Nkoranza and the Mo people and that only a few disgruntled youth had embarked on a misguided path to sow seeds of discord between the two sides.

"I, as Omanhene of Nkoranza and the good people of Mo Traditional area will never allow such misguided elements to have their way because we are determined to pool our resources for the steady development of our areas," Okatakyie Kudom added.

Nana Tibalakala (ed. correct) expressed appreciation for the invitation extended to the Mo delegation to attend the "historic" meeting.

He reiterated that the chiefs and peoples of the two areas would not give any chance to those youth whom he described as "hooligans" to destroy the cordial relationship between Nkoranza and Mo "because we want progress and development".

"We are in a global village now and detractors cannot be given any chance to disrupt our forward march in development," the acting Mo President stated and stressed the need for the two areas to be united and collaborate as mature partners in progress.

Nana Tibalakala noted that the meeting was "divine intervention" to enable the chiefs and peoples of the two areas to pool resources to accelerate their development, adding, "we have resolved not to engage in any squabbles again".

The meeting expressed concern about the fast depreciation of the forest cover in the two areas through human activities and resolved to enforce the ban on charcoal burning, as well as illegal chainsaw operations. 23 April 09
