Girl wins second prize in French competition

Dormaa-Ahenkro, Aug. 12, GNA - Miss Slyvia Akorfah, a 20-year-old second-year student of Dormaa Secondary School placed second in the National French competition organized for basic and second-cycle schools.

Miss Edith Schandorf of Aburi Girls Secondary School took the first position and Miss Ninfaazu Sabina Din-Mah of Saint Francis Girls Secondary School at Jirapa in Upper West placed third. The National Commission on Culture, French Embassy and Alliance Francaise jointly organized the competition last March.

Nana Kyere Kokroko, Brong-Ahafo Regional Head of the French Centre in Sunyani, presented "T" shirts, a cap and French books to Sylvia as her prize at a ceremony in Dormaa Ahenkro on Tuesday. She will also have a free air ticket to Togo and Benin.

He said the country was divided into three zones for the competition and Sylvia topped zone three, which comprised Brong-Ahafo, Western, Central and Ashanti Regions.

Nana Kokroko commended the French tutors at Dormaa Secondary School, especially her tutor, Mr Ransford A. Botchway for their hard work.
