Ghana Telecom University College changes name

Ghana Telecom University College is now known as Ghana TECHNOLOGY University College and it is committed to being the center of academic excellence for the new generation of students. It is now NUMBER 1 in Technology Education in West Africa and it prides itself on being the pillar of excellence in education, research, teaching, intellectual creativity and innovation!

Ghana Technology University College is a young but rapidly growing university, it is growing with a multi-cultural mix of students and it is gradually putting structures in place that will propel the institution to greater heights.

A lot has been done in bridging the gap in the educational sector. GTUC is very passionately inclined to making sure that its students can be successful everywhere, even in the remotest of places. So far, GTUC is in five regions in Ghana with three learning centers in Accra and one in Nigeria.

Virtual learning at GTUC is key and most of the modules are available online so that students do not have to sit in an actual classroom to listen to the lecturers teach the courses. Due to the asynchronous mode of learning in the virtual world, several students across West Africa have flooded to the institution to enjoy the boundless possibilities that are available right here in Ghana.

To help the university achieve some of our objectives, it has reached out to C-Level business and industry representatives, community leaders, parents, alumni and students in the community by asking them to work with the university to improve its programmes, curriculum and infrastructural developments.

Today, GTUC is reaching out to everyone in Ghana and across the globe to do one of four things: set up scholarship foundations for needy students, donate funds to GTUC, pledge money towards the institution's endowment fund or collaborate on Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.

Monetary donations are presently necessary for the university’s recent financial projections. First of all, the establishment of the endowment fund will allow the school to maintain a strong financial account for future building projects. The building projects will also assist non-local students to stay on campus and attend classes in Accra. Presently, a huge percentage of the non-Ghanaian students from 26 different countries are pursuing different programmes at GTUC.

The provision of hostels, campus dormitories etc. are pertinent to the success of all the expansion projects. As the school focuses on fundraising ventures, building its endowment fund, facilitating building projects and fostering a strong relationship with its alumni; it will ultimately ensure continuity and coordination of key strategic goals to advance GTUC’s reputation and resource development objectives.

Maria Louisa (ML) Brookshire nee Blay-Miezah was hired last year as the Head of the Institutional Advancement Department to primarily raise the necessary funds for the university and to also manage the Alumni Relations Unit. Her unfettered passion for telecommunications, technology and education is very evident and she would like the public to fully understand what Institutional Advancement really stands for.

Institutional Advancement is indeed a mouthful, but it is simply a fancy name for the office that handles the financial objectives of an institution as it relates to the awareness and implementation of programmes that will ultimately enable the school to raise and garner funds or donations.

The Institutional Advancement department (IAD) is accountable for establishing an advancement function that is focused on strengthening relationships and active engagement with key decision makers, foundations and corporations.

The department is also responsible for creating an extensive portfolio of key businesses and prospective organizations that will donate resources towards the institution. At GTUC, ML Brookshire provides leadership and strategic guidance for capital campaigns and fundraising drives and the next major event will be held for top level business executives on Friday, 25th April, 2014 at the Holiday Inn Hotel in Accra.

The IAD is currently executing a concrete plan for supplemental external funding through private foundations, identified philanthropists and major gift donors. The department is also implementing a strong, comprehensive alumni programme that connects prior students to the university.

Under the direction of the Office of the GTUC President, IAD must plan and lead advancement initiatives to capitalize on the university's success story, work with the University Relations department to raise awareness for the institution, and finally establish an endowment fund for the university.

In a nutshell, ML Brookshire (formerly known as Mona Lisa Brookshire) serves as one of the front line staff to promote campus goals and objectives for GTUC and she also ensures that all proposals to potential partners are accurate, compelling, professionally presented and completed in a timely fashion. She consequently facilitates engagement in the areas of alumni affairs, resource development, grants and fund raising.

Hopefully, by explaining what Institutional Advancement represents, ML Brookshire will be able to continually carry out her duties seamlessly at Ghana Technology University as she makes her footprint in the Education Sector.

If you have any questions about the aforementioned pecuniary objectives of the institution, please do not hesitate to contact her in the Institutional Advancement Office at +233 202 625 774 and/ormbrookshire@gtuc.edu.gh. Remember: Becoming a GTUC partner/donor will enable you to put education in the forefront of today's era of cutting-edge technology.
