Four female students of Zorkor Senior High School in the Bongo District of the Upper East Region have been left with burnt injuries after a gas explosion at the girls’ hostel.

The injured persons according to Bolgatanga-based Tanga radio are currently on admission at the Bolgtanga Regional Hospital responding to treatment.

According to an eyewitness account, the students had closed from school and one of them returned to the hostel to start preparing her supper. Unknown to her the cylinder had leakage; it sparked fire and subsequently exploded injuring all four.

The latest incident comes less than a week after a similar incident was reported in the Kasena-Nankana District on Sunday when fire engulfed an apartment at the Navrongo Police Barracks in the Upper East Region, trapping a 3-month-old baby to death on her birthday.

The cause of the fire which is still under investigations began in the early hours of Sunday, sparking a wave of panic in the neighbourhood as efforts to rescue not only the child but also valuables worth thousands of cedis intensified.
