A major boost has been given to education in the Ga West Municipality following the construction of a new school block for Ga Odumase M/A 2 Basic School by philanthropist Dynamic Mawunyegah Akakpo.
The newly completed facility is expected to ease congestion, improve teaching and learning conditions, and enhance morale among both pupils and teachers.
According to him, the project is intended to complement government’s efforts in expanding educational infrastructure across the country.
“I feel good when I give back to society,” he stated.
“The society has played a major role in my upbringing. Certain things must be put in their proper manner. I decided to help safeguard the future of these children by putting up infrastructure, modernising the environment and ensuring they have a place that boosts their morale.”
Commissioning the project, the municipal chief executive officer for Ga West, hon John Desmond Sowah Nai lauded the benefactor's gesture and called on others living in the municipality who are financially sound to follow suit.
Sowah said government sees development of human capital through formal education as a critical component of its overall development agenda and conceded that it could not do all that alone and would therefore, continue to collaborate with organisations and individuals willing and able to cushion government effort in delivering quality education to the people.
Akakpo also highlighted the challenges teachers often face in mobilising resources to improve school infrastructure.
“You need not be rich before you make an impact,” he advised. “Wherever you find yourself and the opportunity to make a difference presents itself, you must do what you can to help society.
Make an impact."
