GUTA presents gifts to Asamankese hospital

Asamankese (E/R), Feb. 3, GNA - The Asamankese branch of the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) has presented a number of items worth about one and half million cedis to the Asamankese Government Hospital.

This was after members of the Association had spent about two hours cleaning the premises and surroundings of the hospital. The items included five mattresses, ten pillows and a variety of food items.

The Vice President of the Association, Mr. Owusu Ofosuhene, said the presentation was the association's humble contribution towards the upkeep of the patients.

He said the burden of running the hospital should not be the responsibility of the government alone but individuals and organizations should also contribute to improve conditions to enhance health-care delivery.

The Secretary and Auditor of the Association, Mr. Ben Afrani and Mr. Kwaku Joe, promised that the association would not only undertake periodic clean-ups at the hospital but would also help in providing some of its basic needs.

Miss Faustina Asantewaa, Nursing Officer, expressed the hospital's gratitude to the Association for the gesture and expressed the hope that others would emulate.

Mr. Harry Asiedu, Hospital Administrator, said the hospital lacked many facilities but said efforts were being made by the Ghana Health Services and the West Akyem District Assembly to provide them. He said the District Assembly was constructing a ward and an operation theatre.
