The Volta Regional Directorate of Ghana Education Service (GES), has taken delivery of 20,942 school uniforms to be distributed to basic school pupils in the 25 districts in the region.

The uniforms, in small, medium and large sizes are expected to help keep the pupils in school and enhance quality teaching and learning. The Regional Director of Education, Mawusi Buadi, who received the uniforms, noted that lack of school uniforms is a major barrier that prevents pupils from being in school.

He commended the government for the initiative and said the uniforms could take the pupils for “at least two academic years”. Mr Buadi expressed joy that the uniforms are ready ahead of start of the next academic year and charged district directors to start allocating the uniforms immediately and not keep them in the stores.

Madam Helen Adjoa Ntoso, Regional Minister who presented the uniforms to the Education Directorate on behalf of government reiterated government’s commitment to the education sector and said the region is receiving its “fair share of the national cake”.

“Last year, we gave out mattresses and furniture, early this year, we gave vehicles to senior high schools and education offices and now, school uniforms. All these are to help parents save some money for other issues so a lot is happening, the region is receiving its fair share of the national cake,” she stressed.
