Some youth from Agogo on Tuesday, March 1, gathered at the Kumasi Airport to petition Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, on the happenings in the area, concerning the menace caused by Fulani nomads.

The overlord of the Ashanti region, who was returning from a trip abroad, was briefed about the long-standing encounter between the Fulani nomads and the people of Agogo.

Agogo has been the epicentre of land use conflicts between herders looking for forage for their cattle and croppers in the forest regions across the country.

The herdsmen have been accused of leading their animals into natives’ farms to feed on and destroy crops, as well as setting such farms on fire.

They have been accused of rape and murder in several instances.

The Ashanti Regional Security Council has been compelled to expel them, together with their cattle, from the Asante Akyem North District to forestall further violence.

However, the people of Agogo, as well as the Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North constituency, Kwadwo Baah Agyeman have expressed their displeasure about what they see as the selective manner in which security personnel in the area are evicting Fulani herdsmen and their cattle.

The people have also accused the police tasked to evict the herdsmen of incompetence.
