Free School Uniforms, Exercise Books Reach Tamale

Government has announced a
package of 2,692, 569 school uniforms and 73, 378 exercise books for free
distribution to basic school pupils in the Northern region.
The materials are to be airlifted
to the various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies in the Northern
region to encourage pupils to stay in the classroom.
This will be in line with
government’s policy direction to make available free school uniforms and
exercise books to support especially needy but brilliant pupils in the nation’s
basic schools.
Mr. Moses Bukari Mabingba, Northern
regional Minister disclosed this at Ghana’s 53rd Independence Anniversary
celebration marked at the Tamale Jubilee Park.
The Northern regional minister
said the proper development of the child should be everybody’s responsibility
and reminded parents of the need to re-channel their resources into educating
their children of school going age especially the girl child.
He also advised children to rise
up to the challenge of responsible adulthood by respecting the elderly in
society and refrain from social vices such as wee smoking, pick pocketing and
internet fraud among others.

Mr. Mabingba regretted that a lot
of the youth of the region have wasted their talent in child labour activities
including Kayayo down south and said plans were afoot to relocate them to their
communities.
He reiterated government’s
commitment to utilize bulk of the oil revenue to boost Ghana’s human resource
base and other productive ventures and urged Ghanaians to have confidence in
President Mills led NDC administration.
Mr. Mabingba attributed the
nation’s low productivity rate to lateness and absenteeism at work places and
warned that his administration would not tolerate such behaviour.
