Fourteen Town/Area Councils inaugurated in Gomoa

Gomoa District Assembly on Tuesday inaugurated 11 Area Councils and three Town Councils at separate ceremonies to give legal backing to the work of the members.

The Town Councils include Apam, Mumford and Nyanyano while Assin, Dago, Ankamu, Dawurampong, Afransi, Aboso, Ekwamkrom, Ojobi, Potsin, Asebu and Eshiem are the zonal centres for the Area Councils.

Mr Yaw Adu Asamoah, the District Co-ordinating Director who inaugurated the Apam and Mumford Town Councils called on the members to desist from abusing the authority vested in them by the 1992 Constitution.

Mr Asamoah advised them to see themselves as servants but not masters of the people and give them respect, adding that any member who would take the law into his or her own hands would not have the backing of the Assembly.

He cautioned them not to sideline the traditional authorities but seek their advice when planning their activities.

The District Co-ordinating Director exhorted members to rekindle the communal spirit of the people to enable them to execute projects in time, especially those, which are to be completed within certain time frame.

Mr Asamoah said the bedrock of every assembly is its revenue base and advised them to assist the assembly to generate revenue.

He said a percentage of what they would collect shall be retained by the councils for implementing their programmes.
