Four students dismissed

Sampa (B/A) April 21 GNA - The Disciplinary Committee of Nafana Presbyterian Senior Secondary School at Sampa in Jaman North District of Brong Ahafo Region has dismissed four final year students describing them as recalcitrant bad nuts, who exhibited acts of gross insubordination towards school authorities.

The Committee recalled 163 others suspended for a month. Mr Mensah Febiri, Secretary of the Committee, told Ghana News Agency that the students were recalled to enable them to prepare for the novelty West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination, which began with the oral English paper on Thursday, April 20.

He said the dismissed students showed gross insubordination and disrespect to the senior housemaster of the school. The Committee secretary explained that contrary to an instruction that fresh students should be handled in a humane manner, one of them, Joseph Nkrumah, Assistant School Prefect, took the law into his own hands and subjected one of them to ill treatment.

Mr Febiri said when the Senior Housemaster got wind of this and asked Nkrumah to go through the same punishment that he had meted out to the fresh student, the Assistant Prefect flatly refused to do so and was fiercely supported by the other final year students.

Mr Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyemang, another member of the Disciplinary Committee, said the school authorities took the measure to serve as a deterrent to the other students to ensure discipline in the institution. Mr Kofi Wiredu Sassah, Headmaster, said the decision of the Committee would be subjected to a thorough scrutiny. 21 April 06
