Four died in accident, others injured

Cape Coast, Nov. 9, GNA- Four persons died and others injured in an accident that occurred on Thursday dawn involving a Benz bus and a cargo truck near Anomabu on the Cape Coast-Accra highway. Ben Sumalia, driver of the bus and William Baidoo driver of cargo truck, died on the spot while Madam Gifty Otoo who was on the bus and Ismalia Cofie another passenger died in hospital. The Saltpond District Police Commander Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Samuel Essel, who confirmed the accident to GNA, said Iddrisu Tahiru, another passenger, on the bus, admitted at the Saltpond Hospital was in a critical condition.

He said others passengers who sustained various degrees of injury and were initially admitted to the Saltpond Hospital, were referred to the 37 Military Hospital, Accra, and the Koforidua Hospital. They were Ekua Amissah, 26, Regina Ansah, Alhassan Kourkye, 24, Kofi Mensah, 22, Peter Ananjo, Philip Ampah, 40, Joseph Twereboah, 32, and Atahiri Amadu.

ASP Essel said Gariba Mumuni, Ahmadu Tahiru, Emmanuel Reynolds, Reverend Isaac Eshun, a chaplain at the Cape Coast Technical Institute and Ruth Cofie were also admitted to the Central Regional Hospital. He said the police were investigating the cause of the accident. The cargo truck, which was traveling from the Mankessim direction towards Cape Coast, reportedly veered off its lane and collided head-on with the Benz bus, which was traveling in the opposite direction.
