Four co-operative societies benefit from AARO micro credit funds

Saltpond, Sept. 2, GNA - About 100 fishmongers belonging to four co-operatives societies at Saltpond and its environs have benefited from a micro credit scheme operated by the Afro-Asian Rural Development Organisation (AARO). Each member of the societies received between two and four million cedis to promote their ventures.

Ms Janet Ennin, Mfantseman District Community Development Officer, speaking at a meeting of the beneficiaries said the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development disbursed the fund on behalf AARO. She said that was the sixth disbursement of the revolving Fund since AARO started operating in the area about six years ago. Mr Robert Quainoo-Arthur, Mfantseman District Chief Executive (DCE), addressing the meeting cautioned the beneficiaries against misapplying the funds for other purposes such as preparing sumptuous meals for their husbands and buying new clothes for funerals.

He urged the women to invest the money in other income generating ventures since this year's fishing season was not encouraging. The groups were the Asomdwe, Kroye, Nyame Yie and Nyame Ndae co-operative societies.
