Forum discusses Nurses attitude in Bolga

Bolgatanga, Feb. 12, GNA- Participants at a one-day forum in Bolgatanga on Wednesday complained of the hostile attitude of nurses towards patients who report to the hospital, especially after official working hours.

They said the nurses shout at them and blame them for not reporting earlier and sometimes offer very little co-operation.

The forum was organised by the hospital to mark its Open Day celebrations and give the public an opportunity to interact and dialogue with the health personnel.

Mr John Mark Atazure from Zaare, a community near the hospital, said he had on three different occasions experienced such unfriendly attitude of nurses towards him and relatives he had sent for medical attention.

A JSS student, Miss Florence Azure, said her concern about the attitude of nurses who go to schools to vaccinate pupils. "Whenever some of the children do something to annoy them they just start giving the injections anyhow to hurt them, "she said.

Dr. William Dodoo, Bolgatanga District Health Director, reacting to some of the complaints said he had also had complaints from mothers that their children were not properly, handled by the nurses, during immunization exercises.

He assured the people that the health administration outfit was working on the issue and that the nurses would do better next time. Dr. Amia Aduko, Medical Director of the hospital apologised to the people for any hurt they might have suffered and said those mistakes would be corrected.

He advised them to bring their sick relatives to hospital in good time rather than wait until they were in critical conditions before rushing them for medical attention.

Speaking about the hospital mortuary which was another major concern of the people, Dr Aduko said it was included in the reconstruction programme.
