Foreign Affairs Ministry holds 2015 Ambassadors’ Conference

The Ministry of Foreign Affair and Regional Integration has organised the 2015 Ambassadors’ Conference to deliberate on issues affecting missions of the Ambassadors and how those challenges could be tackled.

The two day conference which opened at the weekend at Senchi was attended by Ghanaian Ambassadors in other countries and delegations from the Foreign Affairs Ministry including the Sector Minister.

Madam Hannah Tetteh, the Sector Minister, said the conference was necessary for the operations of the missions of the Ambassadors, as it would help encourage the missions to work together since issues peculiar to one area could also affect other missions.

She stressed that working together could bring about a successful collaboration and representations of Ghana to promote the good image of the country.

“So we use this conference to review what has happened and what we are going to do, address some of the issues that came up and how they could be dealt with ,” she said.

Madam Tetteh noted that issues on the outbreak of Ebola and South African xenophobic attacks were among the matters discussed at the 2014 conference.

“We do it at the end of the year to get an opportunity to review what has taken place and it also prepares us for the year ahead so that the Ambassadors can go back to their missions with the same knowledge and set priorities, achieve their targets and implement their core mandates,” she said.

Madam Tetteh said one of the focus areas of the Ministry is Diaspora engagement to help reach out to Ghanaians abroad during a time of crisis.

“We are not asking whether you are an immigrant or a non-immigrant, but you can just give us an address, phone number or email so that we can contact you in times of crisis, to ensure that you are safe by knowing how many people are in an area and the number of logistics that need to be mobilized to secure them,” she said.

General Wallace Gbedemah, Ghanaian Ambassador to Brazil, commended the Foreign Affairs Minister for undertaking the initiative to collate the challenges and opinions from various embassies to ensure that their tasks are preformed.

“We are ready to accomplish the tasks ahead of us in our various missions and embassies”, he said.
