Assin Jakai (C/R), Jan. 8, GNA - Five satellite markets built at a cost of 1.2 billion cedis were at the weekend inaugurated by Professor Dominic Kweku Fobih, Minister of Lands, Forestry and Mines, in the Assin South Constituency.
Prof Fobih, who is the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, inaugurated the markets which cost 250 million cedis each in Assin Jakai; Assin Achiase; Assin Adubiase; Assin Akrofrom and Assin Asamankese.
They were constructed from the MP's share of the District Assembly Common Fund.
Inaugurating them, Prof Fobih urged the communities to endeavour to keep the place clean and tidy at all times and to make the markets where every member of the community felt welcomed.
Prof Fobih said since 2001, his target had been to ensure the complete electrification of the area; the provision of places of convenience; classroom blocks and the building of good roads to link up all the communities within the constituency. He pledged to complete a 10 million-dollar water system by 2008; build bridges over some rivers in the area and ensure that the major roads were tarred.
The District Chief Executive for Assin South, Madam Millicent Kuranchie appealed to the people to capitalise on the school feeding programme and send their children to school.
She also urged them to register with the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and the National Identification programme when the programme took off.
