Five hundred SSS graduate attend orientation course

Abuakwa (Ash), Sept 25, GNA 96 A two-day orientation workshop for 50 senior secondary school (SSS) graduates for teaching appointment under the Youth Employment Programme has ended at Abuakwa in the Atwima-Nwabiagya district.

It was jointly organised by the District Assembly in conjunction with the district directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES). Mr Thomas Ofori-Donkor, District Chief Executive, said the government recognises the need to harness the innate talents and energies of the youth to further enhance national development. He said the government had placed employment high on the national development agenda and this is why employment had been mainstreamed in Growth and Poverty Reduction Strategy (GPRS).

Mr Ofori-Donkor said the orientation being offered to the participants was to prepare them to be abreast with the rudiments of teaching.

Mr Amoah Awuku, Atwima-Nwabiagya District Youth Employment Officer, announced that seven modules had been selected under the Youth Employment Programme and these include youth in agriculture, trade and vocation, sanitation management, auxiliary nursing, community teaching assistants, voluntary services and community protection corps. Mr Wilson Awuah Dartey, an Assistant Director of Education in-charge of Supervision at the district directorate of Education, entreated them to accept postings to any area to ensure the success of the programme.
