An unidentified fisherman narrowly survived a terrifying ordeal at the Akuse Hydro Dam when his canoe was almost pulled into the dam’s powerful turbines during a chase for tilapia.
The incident was shared on the X page of CDR Africa on Monday, November 10, 2025, accompanied by video footage showing the fisherman’s near-death encounter at the Akuse Hydro Dam.

"A fisherman narrowly escaped death at the Akuse Hydro Dam after a chase for tilapia turned into a terrifying ordeal," the post read.
The video footage captured the moment the man battled strong currents, desperately maneuvering to avoid disaster.
"Video footage shows the heart-stopping moment his canoe was nearly sucked into the dam’s powerful turbines as he fought the raging currents and miraculously escaped to safety," it added.
The Kpong Dam, also known as the Akuse Dam, is a hydroelectric power-generating facility on the lower Volta River near Akuse in the Eastern Region.
The dam is owned and operated by the Volta River Authority.
