First Obuasi traffic lights commissioned

Obuasi (Ash), Aug. 16, GNA- The first traffic lights, costing 197 million cedis and financed by the Obuasi Development Fund (ODF) and Adansi District Assembly was commissioned on Friday.
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Obuasi, Mr A.B. Boadi-Mensah cut the tape to put on the lights, which was installed by Facol Roads of Accra.
Obuasi citizens resident in America also contributed 1,400 dollars towards the project.
Mr Joe Boampong, the District Chief Executive said the project signifies the preparedness of the Board of the ODF to ensure that funds are judiciously used for the development of the Obuasi township.
He appealed to workers of Ashanti Goldfields Company (AGC) who have still contributed nothing to do so to help facilitate the development of Obuasi.
Mr Boampong commended teachers, AGC senior staff, other government workers and market women for their contributions to the fund. Mr K.A. Boateng, the Obuasi Divisional Police Commander advised pedestrians and motorists to observe the traffic signals to avoid any accidents.
Mr Andrew Kwablah, the Metro Roads Engineer, the consultant of the project reminded drivers that they would take the cost of any repairs should they damage the lights as a result of careless driving. Mr Kwablah disclosed that the assembly has asked them to assess the roads in Obuasi to determine how best they can assist to improve vehicular movement.
