First Aid training necessary for all

Mr Selassie Akoto, Coordinator for the Eastern Regional Cadet Corp has called on institutions to organise periodic first aid training seminars for their staff members.

He said knowledge acquired in first aid on health and fire issues could help prevent unwanted deaths saying “it would equip one to handle accidents on the roads, at home and at the offices and workplaces.”

Mr Akoto said this when addressing a parade during a leadership camp for the Regional Cadet Corps at Akyem Swedru on Friday.

The theme for the camp was, “We are our own medic”.

The Regional Coordinator said “when accidents occur on our roads with passengers on board, any person without knowledge in providing first aid just rushes to the scene trying to save lives, this is dangerous and unacceptable”.

Mr Akoto urged households, school authorities, institutions and companies as well as drivers to ensure that they possessed first-aid kits at all times.

Mr Alex Ofosu Koranteng, Assistant Headmaster of Akyem Swedru Senior High School, who was the guest speaker at the function, lauded the corps for participating in the training.

He appealed to the Corp to hold fast to the lessons learnt and the experience attained.
