Firemen review performance at Winneba

Winneba, Dec 26, GNA - The District Fire Officer for Awutu-Effutu-Senya, Mr B. K. Nketsiah, has called on the personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) to renew their commitment to goals of the Service and the nation in the years ahead. Addressing officers and men of the Service in the District at an annual appraisal meeting at Winneba, he urged them to eschew negative acts that could disrupt the smooth operation of the GNFS and promote the "spirit of team work".

He asked them to offer suggestions to help improve their individual and collective performances to meet the expectation of the communities, the service and the nation.

Mr Nketsiah said the Service had reached a stage where it needed ideas to transform it especially at the community and zonal levels to protect the country's ecology and to save water bodies, which were threatened through indiscriminate bush burning.

He said the GNFS would launch a campaign soon to enlighten inhabitants in the district on the effects of bushfires. Mr Nketsiah charged Sectional Heads of the Service in the District to ensure discipline and control over their subordinates to move the Service forward.

He warned that the District Administration of the GNFS would not countenance any act of indiscipline, laziness, malingering in the coming year.

"Let all of us collectively resolve to make hard work, honesty and dedication to be our hallmark in the year 2005 to carve an enviable image for our District and the Service in general," Mr Nketsiah told the Firemen.
