Fire outbreak destroys seven kiosks

Madina (G/AR), Jan. 19, GNA - Seven kiosks situated at the Madina Zong= o junction were destroyed in a fire outbreak on Monday morning. Speaking to the GNA, one of the occupants of the destroyed kiosks, Mr Eric Nti, who is a carpenter by profession said around 0500 hours on Monday= , one of the kiosks caught fire believed to have been activated by an electrical fault and spread to the seven kiosks located in the same vicinity.

Mr Nti said some of the kiosks contained personal belongings while others were stores that sold bales of clothing and bags. He mentioned bicycles, electrical sewing machines and cooking utensils as some of the items that were burnt in the fire.

He added that two carpentry shops containing stuffed leather chairs, plywood and other types of wood meant for the manufacture of furniture valued at several thousands of Ghana cedis, were also destroyed. Tailoring shops which also contained new cloths meant for sewing were reduced to ashes.

When the GNA visited the scene, the Ga-East Municipal NADMO Co-ordinator, Alhaji Imam Mohammed had also come to the scene to assess the damage and to console the owners.

Alhaji Mohammed stated that NADMO will assist the victims with some clothing and other items.

Some women who were wailing over the destruction of their items appeale= d to the Government to come to their aid.
