Fire outbreak destroys property

New Krobo (B/A), May 27, GNA- A fire outbreak destroyed a compound house belonging to Mr. Kwadwo Boye at New Krobo, near Techiman on Sunday.

Officials of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) are investigating the cause of the fire.

Mr. Daniel Boadi, a teacher of the Twimia-Koase Methodist Primary School, a tenant in the house told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the fire started at about 1430 hours when all the tenants had left the house for market and other places of work.

He said personal belongings including refrigerators, sewing machines, television sets, bags of cereals, text books and school uniforms all estimated at about 30 million cedis were destroyed. About 10 million cedis cash were also destroyed.

Mr. Boadi said he lost his "O" and "A" Level certificates while Police Inspector Godfred Dwomo, also a tenant, lost his Police accoutrements as he was on duty at the office.

He said the 32 displaced tenants are putting up with friends and relatives in the town.

Mr. Boadi appealed to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), the government and other benevolent organizations to come to their aid.

Mr. Thomas Tuffour, Techiman Municipal Fire Officer, when contacted corroborated the story and said before fire personnel could arrive at the scene the fire had already destroyed the house.
